The A&O Shearman Essay Competition is designed to test the basic skills of a lawyer- critical thinking and written expression. The contestants are required to write an essay on a difficult legal issue to help them understand the significant implications of theoretical law in practice.

The main goal of the competition is to give students an opportunity to deal with an unclear topic in a specific legal area, to further examine all its aspects, and give them a platform from which the students can implement and present their ideas to the general legal public by publishing their essays. The project thus creates the opportunity for new and interesting argumentation, and furthermore contributes to the discovery of new talents among law students.

The winners are awarded valuable prizes from the law firm A&O Shearman, including financial rewards up to 20,000 CZK, and a 5-day stay in any destination around the world where A&O Shearman offices are located, such as London, Dubai, Sydney or Shanghai.

The Roman Law MCC tries to create the atmosphere of Ancient Rome by simulating proceedings before the praetor. The contestants appear before a professional jury and discuss the solution of the assigned case. Unlike the classic moot court competitions, there are no two pairs of competitors competing against each other. 

The Roman Law MCC consists of two rounds – local  and international –  that are each divided into written and oral parts. Local written parts can range from 1 to 3, depending on the number of registered contestants. The written rounds start with the students working out questions from an assignment received on the spot. The students are required to defend the written preparations before a professional jury at the end of the last written part. The best team from each of the participating faculties advances to the international final round.

The main goal of the project is to verify students’ knowledge in the various areas of law, and to demonstrate their skills (especially in court arguments) before a jury of legal professionals.  This experience is of great benefit for the future professional career of every student. 

Students taking part in this competition stand to win a number of amazing prizes, and also an interesting financial award.

The CMCC is in a one – round or two – round format. The one-round format consists of the written part, followed by one national oral final that is attended by eight teams with the best written court pleadings (but it is always dependent on the number of registered teams).  

The two-round format comprises of a written part that is followed by a local faculty oral round, which takes place at each of four law faculties in the Czech Republic. The winner of each “local round” advances to the national oral final, where the winning teams from all four faculties compete against each other. There is also an option to make an “improvement” to the case. After the winning teams from all four law faculties advance to the national final, the original assignment is modified, and accordingly the teams are required to remake their pleadings for better preparation in the national oral final.

Students participating in the Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition will gain direct experience with the application of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms on a case-by-case basis. FACE THE GLOBAL CHALLENGE!

Create an opportunity for yourself to learn about other cultures and legal systems in a spirit of critical dialogue and scientific co-operation.

Acquire knowledge of the fastest growing body of law – international economic law.

Accumulate experience to become internationally minded and professionally skilled.

Each year there are two cycles, in autumn and spring, in each of which it is possible to apply for up to three placements of your choice. On https://traineeships.elsa.org/ you can now find the deduction, however, on 19 November 2021 the possibility of viewing traineeship offers will open and the application itself will be launched. In the label of the traineeship, the provider shall indicate its requirements for educational attainment, language skills, and, last but not least, legal skills, which students may supplement with various certificates and, where appropriate, diplomas from competitions in which they have participated. The application also includes a letter of motivation and a CV in addition to these elements. The entire application is free and the only condition is to be a member at ELSA.

The ELSA Traineeships project is particularly specific because the local ELSA group is always at the place where the traineeship takes place, always at the intern’s hand. They will help you find accommodation, guide you through the city and make socializing easier, as you will be able to participate in social and academic events that the local group is organizing.

The duration of traineeships may vary, the only limit being a minimum of 10 working days, the condition being that the traineeship takes place in a foreign country. The same condition also applies to online internships, which were introduced through a global pandemic, and which enable you to complete an internship at a home office in the comfort of your own home.

In addition to exploring Europe, the ELSA Traineeships project offers the opportunity to travel on business to more distant countries such as Israel, the USA, Venezuela Dominican Republic, Paraguay India, and many others.

The first issue of PrímaLEX magazine was published at the Prague Faculty of Law in March 1999, to the tune of hundreds of copies. Starting from 2008, PrímaLEX is published at all four of our law faculties in the Czech Republic, and is its popularity has increased day by day. It is hard to not notice PrímaLEX at any event organized by ELSA for its members or non-members. The opportunity to read this magazine is an integral part of every lecture, member meeting, seminar, etc. Interest in the magazine among the students is enormous. The current number of printed copies, estimated to be around 3 000 pieces, are immediately gone. 

Copies of the magazine are distributed to eminent law firms, as well as to several publishers of professional legal literature. As PrímaLEX is registered with the Ministry of Culture, at least one mandatory copy of each edition can be found in all regional libraries.

ELSA Career is a user-friendly website that connects the two sides of the job market: law students, legal trainees, and lawyers, on the one hand; and law firms, government and much more on the other. On our website, employers specify positions that they are looking to fill, and job seekers use our smart search engine to find job opportunities to fill their needs and requirements.

ELSA Career Czech Republic has 4 partners at the moment. Their job offers always show up first, and a sub-site also informs you about the employer, and the branches of law their company excels in.

What is the goal?

Our main goal was to create an accessible, modern website that is intuitive and easy to navigate. The search engine allows you to browse through hundreds of job offers to find the ones best suited for you.

However, ELSA Career is much more than just job offers in one place. Our website collects articles about job hunting (How to CV, How to job interviews…) to help you find the right job, specific legal issues, and much more.
