The Chair for the Guest with Oldřich Martinů
On 17th May 2015 ELSA Brno organized The Chair for the Guest. We were honored and pleasantly surprised that our invitation was accepted by Deputy Director of Europol and former president of the Czech Republic Police, Major-general Mgr. Oldřich Martinů.
Despite the fact that the event was held during a period of exams, there were some students who could not miss the opportunity to meet the deputy and surely they did not regret it.
Students learned about the history of how he became a policeman, what his responsibilities were back at the police and now at Europol. The students  also found out that the best way to get to a higher position is when somebody makes a severe mistake. Our guest told us many interesting stories from his past, including those from times when he worked at CID (Criminal Investigation Dept.), Police Headquarters and Europol.
We all felt very sorry when the time ran out. There was an amazing atmosphere the whole time, students were laughing, paying attention, listening with astonishment and asking the major-general all kinds of questions.
At the end we took a group photo with Mr. Martinů, who wished luck to all of us not only with exams, but also in life. Since our guest was a graduate law student, his presence was a great inspiration and motivation before the finals that we would have to face very soon.
